On 15 October 2017, Hanshi David Kacperski, 9th Dan, travelled to Hull to lead an intensive karate seminar focused on traditional techniques and their modern, practical applications. Hosted at the Vulcan Sport Karate Club under the guidance of Clive Lee Shihan, 6th Dan, the event attracted students from across Yorkshire eager to learn from one of the UK’s most respected instructors.

The day began with a series of kihon (basic techniques) drills, where Hanshi Kacperski demonstrated precise stance work, striking mechanics, and defensive footwork. Students then progressed to kata applications, exploring bunkai (kata analysis) and real-world self-defence scenarios drawn from core forms.

After a networking lunch, the afternoon sessions shifted to partner work and controlled kumite drills. Participants practised timing, distancing, and combination attacks under Hanshi’s watchful eye. His hands-on corrections and clear explanations helped both beginners and advanced students refine their technique.

Clive Lee Shihan praised the seminar’s organisation and Hanshi Kacperski’s teaching style. “David’s ability to bridge tradition and practicality gave every student new insights,” he remarked. “The energy in the dojo was electric—everyone left motivated to apply these lessons in their daily training.”

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Many highlighted Hanshi’s emphasis on martial etiquette and the underlying philosophy of karate-do. One student shared, “I’ve attended many seminars, but Hanshi David’s explanations of bunkai truly opened my eyes to the deeper purpose behind each movement.”

With this successful collaboration, Vulcan Sport Karate Club and KMAA-DOJO look forward to future joint events that continue to strengthen the martial arts community across the region.
