Master Beniston was
invited to teach kickboxing at the gathering of the Masters
International seminar held in Monchengladbach on 29th and 30th
May, accompanied by Adam Beniston and Wes Draycott, they set of
for Germany on the Friday from Birmingham airport, where they
met up with three other British Instructors, G Master Mike
Benfell 10th dan, G Master Mark Kemp 9th Dan and G Master Norman
Wall 9th Dan. On arriving at Dusseldorf airport they were met by
G Master Toni Finken Schaffrath 10th Dan who was hosting the
seminar at his full time academy. The course was attended by
over 80 students from Germany, Britain, Poland and Czech
Republic, with 16 Instructors, teaching Shaolin Kempo,
Kickboxing, Tai Chi Chuan, Goshin Jutsu, Muay Thai Boxing etc;
Everyone enjoyed the event, and much food and beer followed over
the weekend, before we were taken back to the airport on the
Monday morning for the journey home, some photos will be added
shortly, congratulations to Adam who was presented his 4th Dan
in TaeKwonDo by G Master Schaffrath and G Master Frank Schneider
10th Dan (and 7th Dan TaeKwonDo). The next 'Gathering will take
place in Britain, in Leamington Spa, hosted by G Master Benfell.
Royce Gracie
Seminar 23/05/10
Master Beniston and
Sensai Draycott had the privilege of training with the great
Royce Gracie of Brazilian Jujitsu, in Doncaster. Royce Gracie is
a 3 times UFC Champion and the only man in the history of no
holds barred matches to beat 4 opponants in one night.
Royce is still active in
the fight world and holds the record for the longest MMA match
in history: 90 minutes against Japanese superstar Kazushi
Sakuraba in PRIDE Grand PRIX 2000. He also showed total
domination of the Olympic Judo Gold Medalist Hidehiko Yoshida.
His largest opponent was Sumo Grand Champion Akebono, 6' 8"
486lbs. Royce vs. Akebono was the main event of K-1 Premium
Dynamite New Years Eve show on New Year's Eve in 2004. Royce
defeated the giant in just 2min and 13sec with a shoulder lock.
Royce’s continued success has opened the eyes of many
disbelievers to the importance of leverage and technique in
grappling. It was a VERY hot day and very hard to train for
several hours in a heavy judo gi, but was great fun. Photos will
be added soon.

thoroughly enjoyed the day.

for the charity CLIC Sargent, (Caring for Children with Cancer).
If anyone would like to come along at any time during the attempt
and join in the training they will be most welcome, (it will cost
nothing to train, unless you want to make a donation on the day).
Phil will be trying to raise some sponsership for this worthwhile
charity (consider the fact that over the next 24 hours 10 children

website is up for anyone who wants to make a donation. Though we

SouthYorkshire
Championships 17/06/07
The All
British Martial Arts Association
(ABMAA) recently took a team of 13 competitors to the South
Yorkshire Championships in Rotherham, and came away with a total
of 16 medals!
For
many of the competitors it was their first ever tournament, and
they all demonstrated a level of enthusiasm and talent that bodes
well for the future of the ABMAA’s team.
The
day kicked off with the forms categories. In the Junior Korean
Patterns section Craig Canning, a Green belt in Tae Kwon Do,
performed the 1st Dan Black belt WTF pattern to take 3rd
place, not bad for his first time in this section. In the Adult
Japanese Kata section Adam Beniston successfully defended his
title for the 3rd time with a senior Shotokan kata,
Unsu. Kevin Mitchell entered the Adult Korean Patterns, and came 4th
in a very difficult section after performing the WTF 2nd
Dan Black belt pattern. His Instructor, and current World Cup
champion, Adam Beniston won this section with the WTF 3rd
Dan Black belt pattern.
Next
up was the Junior Points Fighting categories. Calum Wright came 3rd
in his section with a very spirited performance from such a young
fighter. In the boys -5’2 section, Gage Sludds claimed a well
earned 3rd place after winning several fights, with
cousins John Greenham and Matty Carter just missing out on the
medals this time. Craig Canning entered the boys +5’2 and was
the smallest fighter in the section; he met the eventual winner in
the semi-finals. It was a case of David and Goliath as the boy he
fought was not only older but also at least a foot taller! Craig
started off slow as he was intimidated by the size of his
opponent, and even lost a point in the first minute for leaving
the area, but he came back well towards the end of the fight,
losing by only 1 point to take 3rd place. In her first
ever competition, Chantelle Goodwin, a Purple belt in Kickboxing,
won her first 2 fights comfortably to meet a 2nd Dan
Black belt in the final. Though her opponent was bigger, much more
experienced, and very good with her kicks, Chantelle managed to
take her to extra time, eventually losing by only 1 point to take
the 1st Silver medal of the day. A very promising start
from such an inexperienced fighter…
In
the Ladies +65kg Points fighting section Kathryn Carlyle was
defending her title from last year. Unfortunately she had some
very stiff competition, and had to settle for Bronze this year.
Not to be fazed however, Kathryn entered the +65kg Light
Continuous section and won a convincing Silver medal in that, her
first time in Light Continuous.
Junior
fighter Rupert Hendry, a Green belt in Hwrang Do, entered his
first competition and decided to step up into the Men’s -75kg
section rather than fight the juniors. After a brave performance
from the young lad, he ended up with a well deserved 3rd
place. His team mate Wes Draycott went one better and won a Silver
medal in the -75kg Points, but had to settle for 3rd
place in the Men’s -75kg Light Continuous after his stamina let
him down in the semi-finals, against much younger opponents.
Ashfield Tigers 3rd Dan Black belt Greg Hendrie and
Cobra Freestyle 1st Dan Black belt Dave Butlin both
came joint 3rd in the Men’s +75kg Points fighting.
Dave then battled his way to 3rd place position in the
Men’s +75kg Light Continuous. In the same section Greg Hendrie
showed everyone why he’s the current World Champion in Light
Continuous, easily dispatching his opponents on his way to a
spectacular final against the winner of the Points fighting
section (who had beat Greg earlier that day). In a fitting end to
the day, which had everyone on the edge of their seats, Greg
fought his way to victory to become the 2007 South Yorkshire
champion. {report by Adam Beniston Team Captain}
